Wetherby High School

  Positive Discipline:

Positive Discipline

Good attendance and punctuality is extremely important if students are to achieve their best and get the most out of their time at school.

At Wetherby High School we operate a Positive Discipline system:-

Rewarding attendance:

Government statistics have shown that if a student has an

attendance rate of 90% (ie equivalent to missing one half day of school each week) the result is an overall drop of at least one grade in all of their GCSE courses.  At Wetherby High School we are proud of our strong attendance rates but we want to ensure that all students are given every encouragement to attend and achieve.

In 2007 the school launched a new initiative to recognise the many students who attend Wetherby High School every day and also those students who significantly improve their attendance rate.  Any student with 100% attendance for a term will receive a certificate in a special assembly on the last day of each term.

In addition to this the names of all the certificate winners in a year group will be put into a hat and a name will be drawn.  The winners will receive £10.00

An overall prize draw from the names of all students who were awarded with a certificate wins an iPod nano.

Behaviour in school is generally good and was described as such by Ofsted.  High Standards of behaviour are required at all times and are recognised and rewarded in a variety of ways, individually and collectively.  Where behaviour falls below the required standard, the school draws from a range of possible responses with the aim of supporting students in their learning and personal progress and development.
