 Ofsted: About Ofsted

School Inspections are carried out under section 5 of the Education Act 2005. The new inspection framework was published in July 2005 and incorporates the Every Child Matters agenda as set out in the Children's Act 2004. Inspections look at the quality of a school and guide the school to further improvement. A school will usually be inspected once every three years and will have very little notice (two to three days) that the inspectors are coming to the school.

The school now carries out self-evaluation and this is the starting point for the inspectors, along with other statistical information on the performance of students at each key stage which is contained in what is referred to as the 'PANDA'. Nearly all of the inspections are carried out by Her Majesty's Inspectors (HMI) and additional inspectors. The school completes and keeps up to date a self-evaluation form, known as the SEF. The SEF looks at how the school is doing, including the views of parents and students and sets out how we can remedy any weaknesses and build on our strengths.
