A School for the 21st Century 

As Wetherby High School is a Specialist Technology College, we use the latest teaching equipment to ensure that our students' experience of education is relevant to the modern world and that they gain knowledge in an exciting and engaging way.  All of our classrooms are equipped with data projectors significantly expanding the range of resources available to teaching staff as they allow access to the internet and our new Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).  The VLE will play an increasingly important role as it allows students access to online homework set by staff.  Given the increasing influence of IT in the lives of all people, we have found that this is an excellent method of complementing the more traditional homework assignments.

Working in parnership with parents

A new system has been designed to allow staff to gain instant access to assessment information and this also allows students' progress to be tracked.  Using this technology, we can now issue parents with two mini-reports detailing their son or daughter's achievements and any area which require extra focus.  This is part of the ongoing dialogue which we have with parents to ensure that their child receives the best suppport and encouragement possible.  In addition to this, we have an annual parents' consultation evening and detailed reports written by each subject teacher.

Pupil Support

Wetherby High School has a strong tradition of providing our students with a wide range of support. All of our students have a form tutor who registers them every morning and provides the first point of contact if they have any concerns.

We also have a Key Stage 3 Manager who is non-teaching which allows this member of staff to focus their time on providing the necessary support for students from Year 7 to Year 9. We currently have a Head of Year 10 and also a non-teaching Year Group Manager for Year 11. Sixth Form students are supported by the Director of Sixth Form Studies.

In addition we have a Learning Mentor and two Behaviour Support Workers who support students in many different ways both on an individual basis and collectively. Support is co-ordinated and dovetailed to the needs of the individual as well as working with parents to support the learning and personal development of the individual.

Reports

Parents are issued with a full written report each year regarding students' progress as well as a parent consultation evening being held and interim grade reports being provided in the course of the school year.
