YEAR 8 RESIDENTIAL

It is our aim to offer all Year 8 pupils the opportunity to engage in an exciting and motivating residential experience. By participating in a range of outdoor pursuits, as well as by living in a community, pupils are given the opportunity to develop as individuals and to learn to live successfully with others.

We are currently using YMCA Lakeside National Centre near Newby Bridge in the Lake District.  This is a superb centre situated in four hundred acres of grounds on the southwest shores of Lake Windermere. Activities aim to develop confidence, communication and listening skills as well as personal and social development.  Sessions are lead by fully qualified Lakeside instructors assisted by our own staff and aim, through supportive instruction, to encourage pupils to 'step outside their comfort zone' if and when they can.

Here is what some pupils said of the week:

"Our instructor was kind, hip, funny, friendly, talkative, nice".

"I really enjoyed Residential and I would go again"

"You will get over your fears and staff are very kind"

"You would really regret not going because you don't get to do these things usually"

"Our Instructor was funny, crazy, great, smiley, fun, kind, responsible".

"You make more friends and get to know people better"

These are a few comments from parents about the value and enjoyment levels of the week:

"Very much enjoyed it.  She would never have had access to all those outdoor activities otherwise"

"We appreciated the expertise of the instructors"

"The cost of the trip was acceptable - you cannot put a price on your child's safety"

"My son enjoyed all the activities, especially the more challenging ones. It's great
for confidence building and mixing with new people".

"We really appreciate the school providing this experience".

"An amazing experience for my child which was full of fun".

"An exciting and a challenging week in which they learnt  new skills".

"Staff were brilliant and made this a memorable time".
