 Healthy Eating

The Government food-based standards for school lunches and other school food were introduced in 2006.

At Wetherby High School we continue to educate our students in line with the National Healthy School guidelines.

A sample lunch menu is can be viewed here - which, we believe, gives a good and varied choice for even the most discerning customer.

Packed lunches are, of course, the responsibility of parents but the school will provide guidlines in accordance with Government standards and these will form part of our revised School Nutritional Policy.

In addition the school offers a breakfast club and breaktime snacks.  Both are very popular with the students.

Wetherby High School is entering a new age in technology.

A biometric cashless system goes live on Monday 3rd November 2008.

The basis of this cashless system is a computer controlled by software that recognises each individual pupil through the student's finger and algorithm match.

Security

Students, parents and staff can rest assured that the finger image cannot be used by any other source for identification purposes.  The system uses an image of the finger to create a mathematical algorithm and then discards the finger image.  Only the numbers remain and these cannot be reinterpreted back into a finger image.

Some frequently asked questions:

Answer:

Why do you need to take my child's finger image?                             By taking an image of your child's finger we can turn this information into a digital signature.  This unique image will then be used to identify the individual.
Can the finger image be used by any other agency? No, the software we use turns your child's finger image into a mathematical algorithm.
The image is then discarded.  The information that is stored cannot be used to recreate an image of the child's finger.
What happens when my child leaves school? When a student leaves school all data can be deleted.
How does it work? When the child places his/her finger on the scanner the software matches their finger image with the unique digital signature held in the database.
