Visit from Leading Conservative Figure

On Tuesday 3rd March A Level Politics students at Wetherby High School took part in a informative
and engaging question and answer session with one pivotal figures in the development of the
Conservative Party over the last twenty years; Francis Maude MP.

Students were very lucky to be able to learn from a man who has held a host of top positions
within government and the Conservative Party. In the 1980s Francis Maude was a cabinet minster
under then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Today he is a leading 'Cameronite' working diligently
as a member of the shadow cabinet and until recently party chairman for Conservative victory at
    the next general election.

Francis Maude came to support Alec Shelbrooke the prospective Conservative candidate for Elmet
and  Rothwell who also took part in the fascinating discussion which covered many topical issues such

as; the financial crisis, reform of the House of Lords and even the socio-economic make up of Parliament.

Wetherby High School's politics teacher Mr. Clifford commented that the whole experience
would be of direct benefit to students preparing for up-coming exams
.
