 WETHERBY HIGH SCHOOL:

Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT)

We have recently received some brilliant news from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.

The SSAT is the government body which oversees specialists school nationally. The Trust has three categories of awards which it makes to specialist schools:
Most improved
The percentage of our students who achieved 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C including English and maths has risen by 17% in the last four years. During this period the national pass rate has risen by just 3%. This means that our rate of improvement is over five times the national average.
Value added
The SSAT estimated that 57% of our students would achieve 5 GCSEs at grade A* - C, including English and Maths. When the results were issued, 70% of our Year 11 students met this criterion. Once again, this was an excellent achievement and was 22% higher than the national average and 5% above our own target.
High performance
This is the second year in succession that Wetherby High School has achieved the SSAT 'High Performance' Award. This award is made to any specialist school which has a GCSE pass rate of over 60% for 5 A* - C grades, including English and Maths.

We were pleased to achieve the High Performance award last year.  This year we have done even better in that we are one of only 89 schools nationally, out of a total of 2719 specialist schools, that has met the criteria in all three categories. This is a tremendous achievement and reflects the continuing hard work and effort of both our staff and students, alongside the support we have from parents.

The only other school in the Leeds Authority to achieve all three awards was Garforth Community College.  No other Leeds or Harrogate school achieved this distinction.
