WETHERBY HIGH SCHOOL:

Recent newspaper reports have variously referred to school merger, school closure and the demolishing of Wetherby High School and Boston Spa School to be replaced by one giant school.

Wetherby High School would like here to present the facts.

The real story is far more interesting. Wetherby High School, together with its partners is providing and developing outstanding, engaging learning for its community.

This is a high achieving school, for example, 70% 5+A*-C including English and Maths. Successful schools stay open and serve brilliantly their communities.

Wetherby High School has an established partnership with Boston Spa School (our neighbour and another successful school). The partnership supports both schools in widening provision and, therefore, in widening the exciting range of courses and opportunities available to students. We will continue to develop this relationship to the benefit of our students and our communities.

We have exciting plans that build on the huge success that we have had to date providing excellent, engaging learning opportunities for our students.

Later this year, there is a possibility that the Government could release funding to develop new facilities for learning in Leeds. This is currently only a possibility. (We are all aware of the current economic climate.)

Any plans or changes that could be possible as the result of new funding would go through a full consultation process with parents, students and the whole of the community which we currently serve.
